School Project for St. Pete Art and Fashion Week Fashion Show
This look was created for the show held for St. Pete Art and Fashion Week in St. Petersburg, Florida. The school presented one look per student, giving students two months to prepare. Due to the recent movie, the theme for the collection was Barbie.
My look was inspired by the Barbie during my childhood. The big bow makes the model look like a present, ready for a young child to play with. The shimmer and gleam of a new doll is part of the magic of Barbie.
As for the construction, the silver dress is made of metallic stretch polyester. The bodice has a heart-shaped neckline, princess seams, and a lace-up back. There is boning to add structure, as well as two layers of stretch lining. The skirt is a mermaid silhouette. A petticoat was used during the show to create more volume. The large bow was created by first creating a skeleton with plastic boning and horsehair braid. Then it was covered with a sequined fabric and then again with a polyester chiffon. To connect the bow to the body and keep it in place, elastic was placed at the waist position and at the upper arm.
